Sherry Johnson Alvarez is a compassionate social worker with a deep commitment to supporting women and children experiencing domestic violence. With a passion for advocating for individuals with disabilities, particularly in underrepresented, low-income areas.
As a parent of a child with multiple disabilities, Sherry has a personal perspective on the challenges that families face. She understands firsthand how the complexities of caregiving can impact not just the individual, but the entire family unit. This experience fuels her work and drives her commitment to creating more inclusive and accessible support systems for families navigating similar challenges.
In her role as a member of the California Elder and Disability Justice Coordinating Council, she works to advance policies that protect and empower vulnerable populations, with a focus on justice and equitable access to services. She is also an active member of the Office of Administrative Hearings Advisory Committee (OAHAC), where she works to simplify the complex due process system, making it easier for families and their loved ones to navigate and access the services they need.
Through both her professional and personal experiences, she remains committed to raising awareness of issues related to individuals with disabilities, and working towards a positive change.
